You’re an athlete — and you deserve a rehab experience built for athletes. Your 60-minute initial evaluation is more than just an appointment; it’s a deep dive into you — your sport, your movement, your story. We’ll take the time to understand your injury, assess your performance demands, identify what’s holding you back, and highlight what you do well. Together, we’ll create a clear, customized plan to help you recover stronger, move better, and get back to peak performance. No referral needed.

Real progress happens when your therapist has the freedom — and time — to focus entirely on you. Every 60-minute session is one-on-one with a Sports Medicine Doctor of Physical Therapy, blending advanced manual techniques, movement retraining, and performance-based strength work to target what your body truly needs.
No rushed visits. No red tape. Just individualized care that prioritizes results, not checkboxes. Whether you’re recovering from injury, managing pain, or pushing toward higher performance, you’ll feel the difference of a model built around your goals — not someone else’s system.
For clients who want to keep progressing beyond traditional rehab, Performance Therapy, Sports Performance Training, and Adult Fitness offers a seamless way to continue training under the same roof, with collaboration between your physical therapist and our performance staff. For that reason, Physical Therapy clients who are AA Members receive 15% off their first month of Performance Therapy, Sports Performance Training or Adult Fitness membership.

Performance Therapy at Athletic Advantage bridges the gap between traditional physical therapy and high-level performance training. Designed for healthy athletes and active individuals, this service focuses on movement quality, durability, recovery, and proactive care rather than injury treatment. It provides what most athletes need but rarely receive: hands-on recovery work, mobility optimization, movement refinement, and sport-specific guidance delivered by a Doctor of Physical Therapy.
This membership includes ongoing weekly access to Performance Therapy, providing a consistent rhythm of care that keeps them healthy, moving well, and performing at their best. Athletes will be emailed mobility and recovery video instructions, and have their plan of care coordinated through communication with any relevant performance or sports coaches. Session frequency may be adjusted slightly based on training load, sport season, age, movement needs, or therapist recommendations, ensuring each athlete receives the right level of support without rigid visit quotas. This structure offers clarity for families while preserving the flexibility needed to individualize care throughout the year.
Performance Therapy is ideal for athletes who want to stay healthy throughout the year, reduce injury risk, recover more effectively, and move with greater efficiency. It also supports athletes transitioning out of physical therapy, managing multi-sport schedules, or preparing for high-volume training periods. By integrating clinical expertise with performance insight, Performance Therapy provides athletes with continuous, individualized support—helping them stay ready, resilient, and performing at their best.

Our Arm Care program is overseen and administered by a sports medicine Doctor of Physical Therapy and designed specifically for baseball and softball athletes. Each athlete begins with an individualized assessment that includes dynamometer strength testing and movement analysis to identify mechanical imbalances and areas for improvement. Based on these results, a personalized training program is developed to optimize arm health, strength, and performance. Sessions occur once per week and include one-on-one, hands-on mobility work provided by the PT, ensuring athletes move well and recover effectively. Every participant also receives a connected ArmCare.com account for ongoing tracking, education, and progress monitoring between sessions.

Most clients pay less overall for cash-based care — while receiving more time, better outcomes, and faster progress
Traditional Model
Rates vary by insurance contract, deductible, and facility fees
Care delegated to aides or techs
Increased visit frequency, often driven by billing limits, not clinical need
After deductibles & copays, many clients pay up to $1,200+ per episode of care
Must have a referral, pre-authorization, or certain diagnosis codes approved
Often restricted to what’s “covered”, not necessarily what’s most effective
Our Model

The good news is NO.
We are an out-of-network provider, meaning we do not directly participate with any insurance plans. This is a good thing. Many insurance companies do offer out-of-network benefits; and if you choose to submit for reimbursement with your insurance, we’ll provide an invoice that includes your diagnostic and treatment codes. If you’re curious about this option, call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask, “What are my out-of-network physical therapy benefits?”
-
By being out-of-network, insurance cannot dictate the care that you receive. You can be treated like the individual that you are. You get quality time with the clinician, the care that you actually need, and no unexpected bill with additional charges.
Another benefit of out-of-network care is that, if needed, we can also spend time working on wellness, return-to-sport, and performance improvement activities. These are not reimbursed in traditional clinics and therefore rarely, if ever, offered. Patients who’ve experienced a cash-based model often report needing less visits and a quicker return to activity.
More personalized care and faster results… It's better for you. It’s better for us.

Because we do not participate in Medicare (a federal government program), we cannot provide therapy services for Medicare patients. Ouch, right?
That said, it is possible to participate in a wellness/maintenance program, which is not considered a medical treatment by Medicare. If you’re interested, send us an email or set up a phone call so we can chat more about how this works.

Yes! … (that was an easy one)
-
Nope! North Carolina is what’s called a direct-access state, meaning you can directly access a Doctor of Physical Therapy without needing a referral from another provider.
Don’t worry, we’re trained to screen for red flags or conditions that are outside our scope of practice and will refer accordingly. In many cases, we can help you get an appointment with other providers sooner than you would trying to call on your own.
Many athletes unknowingly delay their time to treatment by getting (often unnecessary) urgent care visits, orthopedic appointments, and expensive imaging, ultimately just to be referred to Physical Therapy anyways!
Save time. Save money. Feel better faster. Come see us!
-
Nope. And this is something you should totally take advantage of. What’s the best way to treat an injury? … Prevent it in the first place! Physical Therapists are movement experts. We excel at identifying movement dysfunctions and imbalances that may be causing a current injury, or can lead to future injury.
We also provide performance therapy designed to optimize your body and enhance performance. Want to perform better? Schedule today!
